General Responsibilities: Provide corporate sponsors with recommended opportunities to enhance their partnership, manage and coordinate all contractual obligations, and build and maintain established business partnerships.
Likes: Working in the sports world! As a fan of sports, going to work in a professional arena is incredibly rewarding. Specifically working in hockey, having an 82 game schedule makes for a lot of home games. The good thing about many home games is you are constantly reminded of why you’re putting in the long days. The sports industry is a grind, but game-days serve as a reward for your dedication. Also, your day-to-day schedule is very fast paced. Each day brings a new challenge, and it takes teamwork to overcome each obstacle. Dislikes:The long hours are tough, but again, game-days remind you why you do it. Working in hockey is sometimes difficult because of the scheduling. In my position, I am responsible for both hockey and all entertainment that comes to Nationwide Arena. This leads to a very limited amount of time off during the holidays. Again, this can all be summed up by the long days and long hours. Hours/Attire:Working in corporate means full suits every day. We do this because of the possibility of meeting with a client on any given day. The hours vary based on the time of the year. During the off-season, you can expect to be at the arena from 8-5. During season, a non-gameday is typically 7:30-6:30, with gameday’s being more along the lines of 7:30-11. Organizations will typically do their best to make up for the extra time you spend at work, such as late arrival or a day off here and there. But this is your passion! You want to be at work! Pay/Benefits/Perks:The pay is pretty good, but this varies based on your position and responsibilities. For example, sales receives compensation, where others will receive an annual salary. We received full benefits, and the perks are being in attendance for all games/entertainment performances at the arena. Education: Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Capital University Related Experience:I was the Vice President of the Capital University Society of Sports Management, and held many student leadership positions in the Capital University athletic department. I would recommend getting all of the experience you can while in school. It is an excellent opportunity to obtain knowledge and make connections in the industry. |

Salary Range:$20,000- $150,000+. This will fluctuate based on your position in the organization. In Inside Sales, it isn’t the best compensation, but it’s an opportunity to pursue your passion!
Turnover:Turnover is high because it is a lot of work and there is always someone willing to do your job if you decided you don’t want to. My first director told my inside sales class of 14 that over 1,400 individuals applied. This figure shows you how many people you are competing with to break into the industry. Opportunity for Advancement:Opportunity for Advancement- With the Columbus Blue Jackets, there is always room to move up. I started in Inside Sales, moved up to Ticket Operations and ended up in Corporate Development. This shows you that you can always move up, and it doesn’t always have to be a “vertical movement up the chain”. Tips for students right out of college:Be ambitious! Continue to follow your passion and chase down your dream! Do your best work and be the best friend and co-worker you can be. People want to work with good people. Take advantage of every opportunity to get better and good things will follow! |
